Happy birthday Mango Airlines - 5 years old - they got going just after us.

Go Emirates - just set a record for the biggest dollar order of aircraft in Boeing’s history. Emirates has ordered 50 B777-300s at a cost of some USD18bn, with options for 20 more.

This brings to 90 the total number of 777-300s Emirates has on order with Boeing.

Fun fact: The Boeing 777-300 is the world's first entirely computer-designed commercial aircraft.

In January MSC Cruises is running a diet-themed 11-night cruise on the MSC Fantasia, especially for French speaking guests.

If anybody finds a Samsung TAB at Rhapsody's at King Shaka Airport, please give us a shout, and we'll help return it to its owner. Was lost on the 14th November at around 07h50.

The Purple shall rule! "The local prices ie to Cape Town for athletes doing Two Oceans, during peak are absolutely ridiculous!!
Why is this? Yet right now flights to cape town are around R500,00. Our local companies need to catch a awake up call! The trouble is there is no competition like Jet airlines or Emirates etc." Dane

The Bottom Line: Regular readers know that one of our passions is trying to understand what is causing high levels of unemployment in South Africa. Productivity, and therefore employability, is related to alcohol & drug use, in the sense that it's far harder to be productive when drunk, hungover or high. South Africa is a poor country, but we find the money for dagga & cocaine, as we consume twice the global average. The average South African drinks the equivalent of 220 bottles of wine a year.

Reducing unemployment has many facets to it, and one of them is to encourage South Africans to consume less liquor.
