The Bottom Line: Regular readers know that one of our passions is trying to understand what is causing high levels of unemployment in South Africa. Productivity, and therefore employability, is related to alcohol & drug use, in the sense that it's far harder to be productive when drunk, hungover or high. South Africa is a poor country, but we find the money for dagga & cocaine, as we consume twice the global average. The average South African drinks the equivalent of 220 bottles of wine a year. |
