Southern Sun has rebranded to Tsogo Sun. It operates a range of hotels in Kenya, Mozambique, South Africa (it is the largest hotel group in South Africa), Seychelles, Tanzania and Zambia.
21 November 2013. Tsogo Sun reporst its results. In addition to acquisition & expansion projects, Tsogo Sun invested more than R400m in maintenance capex groupwide over the 6 months to 30 September 2013. The group is highly geared towards the SA consumer's gaming habits and the corporate market in hotels. Hotel industry occupancies have increased from 57.7% in the 6 months to 30 Sep 2012 to 58.8% in the 6 months to 30 Sep 2013, but remained unchanged for Tsogo Sun South African hotels at 62.5%. Revenue per available room grew by 10%.
31 October 2013. Tsogo Sun purchases the remaining 1.3% of the shares of Tsogo Sun KZN for R37m, and now wholly owns the Suncoast Casino & Entertainment World.

24 May 2013. Tsogo Sun reports adjusted HEPS to be up 24% in the year to 31 March 2013. They say that the hotel industry in South Africa is recovering from oversupply & depressed demand. Industry occupancies have increased from 57% in 2012 to 61%. Tsogo Sun's occupancy rate is 64% (they have the Formula 1 hotel in their group, which experiences higher than average occupancy).
17 May 2013. Tsogo Sun pays the balance of R65m owing on its purchase of the Southern Sun Hyde Park from Hyprop (they paid R65 on 1 Sep 2012 when they began running the hotel).
10 May 2013. Launch of the Southern Sun Elangeni & Mahariani, the largest hotel in KZN, which is a combination of the Southern Sun North Beach and Southern Sun Elangeni.

9 Apr 2013. "Tsogo Sun has made an amount of R150 million available to be spent on charitable or social infrastructural developments in the Gauteng province. In addition, a minimum of R750 million will be invested in capital expenditure for the expansion and redevelopment of the Silverstar casino and the refurbishment and expansion of the Gold Reef City casino and Theme Park. These developments are expected to be completed within the next two years. The Silverstar casino will be redeveloped to create a variety of additional dining options and an outdoor events area,
allowing the complex to host live concerts and events such as the popular Boktown. Additional entertainment offerings will include cinemas, a ten pin bowling alley and laser tag games as well as an expanded and enhanced casino floor and parking. Gold Reef City will also see the expansion of the casino offering as well as the introduction of cinemas and additional restaurants at the casino. In addition the ever popular Gold Reef City Theme Park will receive additional food and
beverage outlets, improved access systems and an improved linkage to the casino complex."
