What makes it memorable
People are what make MSC Cruises so successful and memorable. Their highly qualified staff are dedicated to providing guests with a great service; this, and their well-known Italian hospitality and charm, makes a holiday onboard their ships a truly memorable one.
MSC Cruises is THE truly Italian cruise line with the most modern fleet in the world, designed to exceed every expectation.
Your every need can be taken care of no matter how large or small, nothing is too much trouble for the friendly MSC staff.
History
The Mediterranean Shipping Company formally started life in 1970, when Gianlucci Aponte bought a ship called the Patricia. MSC Cruises was originally formed as Lauro Lines, when Gianlucci Aponte acquired Starlauro, a one-ship cruise line whose fleet consisted of the Achille Lauro.
Food
MSC Cruises seduces its guests with the taste and flavour of Italian cuisine, as well as offering sumptuous dishes of international flavours, to satisfy any palate. There are also a la carte options, with exotic foods such as sushi available, upon reserving a table. Best of all, guests will also get to savour dishes typical of the countries they visit.
Do you have specific diet requirements, for particular conditions and allergies, or simply because you are a vegetarian? MSC Cruises has considered this, and has asked their Chefs to develop a variety of customised meals, designed specifically for your personal needs.
Guests will be able to choose from a vast range of menus... some are also created specifically for children.
Drinks
MSC offers a wide range of cocktails, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic. Be sure to look out in your program to see if they have a demonstration of how to make the cocktails, like this showboating on an MSC Opera cruise from Cape Town to Mossel Bay:

The MSC Cruise fleet
MSC Cruises has four classes of ship to suit every passenger's needs. From smaller ships for the passenger wanting a more intimate feel to the new MSC Splendida which offers the latest in cruising experiences.
Melody class
The MSC Melody was the only ship in the classic class.
She was subtle, rather than glitzy, with lots of charm. This special ship is extremely spacious, and offers advantageous viewing spots from its external decks. What's more, it has a very striking feature: the transparent, retractable Magnadome roof covers and uncovers the pool according to the weather!
This is made up of four ships all identical in their external appearance but all with their own individuality internally.
MSC Lirica
The MSC Lirica boasts a traditional but elegant feel making the passengers feel very comfortable throughout their cruise. The cosmopolitan atmostphere is reflected at two of the lounges onboard the ship: the Beverley Hills bar and the Lord Nelson pub. The meals at the restaurants are said to be tradtional Mediterranean dishes with an international influence. If you feel the need to be pampered, take time to relax at the Lirica Health Centre, which offers beauty and spa treatments. The floor-to-ceiling windows offer magnificent sea views.
The MSC Opera is an elegant ship offering every conceivable comfort, with roomy areas where guests can gather with friends and family in classy surroundings.
Art Deco influences resonate throughout the MSC Opera reflected in geometric shapes and delicate colours. Subtle elegance shows through the gleaming marble flooring and vast windows facing straight onto the sea. The ambience is understated and very relaxing.
The 856 cabins, many with private balconies, are large, airy and spacious. The South African representatives used to be Starlight Cruises, however they were bought out by MSC Cruises.

Onboard the MSC Sinfonia guests can practice one of the most relaxing and fashionable sports of our day... golf! MSC Sinfonia has a cutting-edge Virtual Golf Simulator. This allows the golf fanatics to keep swinging even when they are far away from a course. Between the nightly entertainment acts or the discotheque, there is always something to keep you on your toes.
