Car rental - Chevrolet Aveo LS
We crammed ourselves into a Mango airlines flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg and on arrival at Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport made our way to Hertz car rental. There's some impressive construction work going on at this Johannesburg Airport, a side effect of which is that you need to wind yourself around some construction to get to the Johannesburg Airport car rental outlets. It took Hertz nearly an hour to organise our car, due to their difficulties with finding a car baby seat which works (we had pre-booked one). It's not just Hertz that struggles with car babseats, Avis is just as inept. Once we'd got a car babyseat which worked it fitted into the Chevrolet Aveo fairly comfortably.
Eventually we got away from Johannesburg Airport in our rented car, a Chevrolet Aveo LS. The vehicle is a hatchback, which is not ideally suited to travel in South Africa - thieves target hatchbacks as it's easier to get into the boots and steal items. The vehicle struggles to get up to 120km/h in 5th gear on an uphill and the boot wasn't the largest, but the price was right. Although marketed as a Chevrolet, the Aveo is actually manufactured by GM Daewoo.
