Just like many other cities, Johannesburg doesn't shower itself in glory in terms of what it has done to the air around it - these two images give a good indication of the smoggy situation. In this first image you can see how relatively clear the air is before one flies into Johannesburg's smog (ignore the black smudge in the middle of the photo - some mark on the Kulula plane's window).
Sick City Syndrom - in the next photo one can clearly see a thick layer of smog as one approaches Johannesburg.
