Although the Durban airport is called an International Airport, there are very few international flights to Durban (a notable exception being Emirates). Up to the mid 1990s it was known as Louis Botha Airport.

Durban airport crime syndicates

Durban Airport is a hotbed of crime. The most common modus operandi of the crime syndicates is to identify passengers who have laptops with them, and follow their rental vehicle to the holiday, and break into the vehicle and steal the laptop.

24 Sep 2009	Airlink flight 8911 crashes 400m from Durban International Airport, after reporting smoke from the rear and engine failure.
1 Sep 2009	Emirates begins international flights between Durban and Dubai.
12 Dec 2008	Durban International Airport is cordoned off due to a bomb scare (which turns out to have been a hoax). Several flights had to be diverted.
