26 Jul 2008. Book a Mango Airlines flight by 31 July 2008 to fly by 31 August 2008 and you might win a prize (emphasis on the word might, since there's about 30 prizes and thousands of people will book flights). Our analysis shows that the expected value of these prizes is some R2 per person.
Mango Airlines says that the prizes are worth some R100,000:

How does the maths work out?
We know that the prizes are worth R100,000, but the piece of the equation which is missing is how many passengers book during the last 7 days of the month. Let's guess 7,000 per day, making it 49,000 tickets sold over the last week. This means that the expected gain per passenger is some R2.05 per person (call it R2 so that we cant be accused of spurious accuracy).
