Kulula R420 flight |
31 July 2009 flights |
Kulula's price of 420 is the cheapest flight price in our Cape Town to Durban Friday flight surveys since 21 Jul 2007 (when they set the record low flight price of R288). At the same time both Mango (R500) and 1time (R518) have recorded the lowest prices they have ever charged. Now is a very cheap time to fly.

** This BA South Africa flight price of R863 is the cheapest since our 28 Apr 2007 survey (R841 then). However, it can be booked even cheaper for R804 through the Kulula website (see tips for cheap flights).
Mango were showing on their website about the fact that "Mango achieved an overall on-time performance of 79% last week.. ". Is 79% on-time really something to show off about? That means that 1 in 5 flights were late - perhaps better to keep quiet about that.
Baz Bus have increased their prices from R1200 to R1300 for a 7 day hop-on hop-off pass, an increase of +8.3%.This is slightly higher than CPI inflation (+8.0%), higher than bus coach price inflation (+2.0%) and much higher than flight price inflation (-8.2%). Baz Bus's increase last year was from R1020 to R1200.
Emily wrote a great blog entry about her trip to Mombasa. She was full of praises for the Intercape bus, which she took from Botswana to Johannesburg (but then I would be too, if the conductor gave up her seat for me). She then caught a flight with Kenya Airways from Johannesburg to Mombasa. In Kenya she tells us how:
she got hustled
she stayed at the Kazkazi hotel at Ukanda
ate traditional Swahili food
went snorkelling
got her hair braided

'After he (Mohammed Ali) had boarded the aircraft and sat in his first-class seat, the flight attendant asked him to buckle his seat belt in order for the aircraft to push back off the stand. The champ said, "Superman don't need no seat belt!" The savvy flight attendant replied: "Superman don't need no airplane, either!" The Greatest buckled up without another word.' as quoted from the book, Airline Confidential - buy your books at the online Exclusive Books.
