Mango way cheaper |

It's a no brainer who to fly with today - Mango Airlines is R400 cheaper than 1time and Kulula from Joburg to DUR - for a one-way flight this is HUGE. Even Mango Flex and Mango Plus are cheaper than Kulula and 1time (I wont start to speak about South African Airways or BA).

* one-way flights leaving Joburg between 1729 & 2036 on the 24th Apr 2009
Kulula's flight price of R963 is the highest we have surveyed on the Joburg to DUR flight route (previous highest was R869 in the 22 Nov 2008 flight survey).
It's the first time we've seen a bus (SA Roadlink) cheaper than a train (Shosholoza Meyl) from Joburg to Durban.
On the Joburg to Durban route over the last year, flight price inflation (35%) is higher than bus price inflation (23%), and both are much higher than South Africa's current consumer price inflation (8.6%).
the Douala Airport nightmare I confess I didn't even know where Douala was before reading Alexis Grant's blog about the Airport (the link to the blog was deleted, as it stopped working) . Douala Airport is in Cameroon, and Dibussi met up with with two gents who had to spend a week there when they refused to bribe corrupt airport officials. Douala Airport has a single cushioned chair (see photo), on which they took turns sleeping. Eventually the two managed to get on a flight to Johannesburg from Douala after intervention from the diamond company they work for, and Cameroon government officials.
"Per diems are the daily allowance the airline gives the flight crew to spend while they are out of the country. The amount of money is worked out according to the cost of living in each country the crew are staying in, and can differ quite widely. In an expensive country like Japan, the per diems are quite impressive and much higher than for a country like Egypt. In some countries, like India, the cost of living is so low that they become known on the circuit as charity flights as you get almost nothing from the airline to live off." from Imogen Edwards-Jones's Air Babylon (available from Kalahari books).
