If you're in the mood for paying a blisteringly low price from Joburg to Durban, try Shosholoza Meyl's train trips - today they quoted a cannot be beaten R80 price for a train trip from Joburg to Durban. If you want to fly, then you'll want to know that Interlink today scored a hat trick for cheapest flights in our surveys of the Joburg - Durban route (and the only reason it isn't more is that Interlink haven't been flying the route for longer). Mango are second cheapest, at R581 (Mango have been second-cheapest through Interlink's reign as king of cheap).

Kulula most expensive in over a year

Kulula offer a good flight - they tell jokes and they sometimes even give you a kit kat cat if you're wearing green, but they need to do something about their flight prices. Kulula are charging R819 in today's survey of flights from Johannesburg to Durban, their most expensive quoted price on the route since the 26th May 2007.

Kulula are also knee-deep in the smelly stuff with our Port Elizabeth readers, for scrapping their Lanseria - Port Elizabeth flights.

Shosholoza Meyl is by far the cheapest

For the very cheapest trip from Johannesburg to Durban on the 7th November take the Shosholoza Meyl train - only R80! As far as buses go City to City has lowered their price to R130, whilst SA Roadlink, Translux and Intercape have all raised their prices.

Flight price inflation from Johannesburg to Durban has fallen from 34% to 26%. Interlink's flight price of R548 (the cheapest on the 7th Nov 2008) compares to Nationwide's price of R409 on 26 Oct 2007 and R497 on 7 Dec 2007.

From Rotterdam to Kuruman

Valerie travelled from Rotterdam to Johannesburg via Cairo (5 hour wait), before flying from Johannesburg to Kimberley to see the vast nothingness of the Kalahari desert. She stayed at Postmasburg which is 1000kms from anywhere - Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban. Valerie visited the natural spring called "Die Oog" in Kuruman, Witsand, and saw the Wonderwerk caves south of Kuruman and their bushman paintings.
