South African travel site ratings |
17 December 2007 |
We never realised that travel site rankings could be so controversial, until we saw the response of a certain Australian-owned company to our previous edition of the web-site rankings. We'd like to stress that these rankings are not actually conducted by SouthAfrica.TO - the rankings are conducted completely independently by an international company called Alexa. Alexa use certain statistical sampling techniques to calculate a ranking, and they are not 100% accurate, although they do give a good idea of trends. If anybody (I'm looking at you Flight Centre) feels that the rankings are not an accurate reflection of how well your business is doing then, instead of flaming us, please send us your website statistics to enable a better ranking.

Nationwide airlines have made some good ground (no doubt the website activity was bolstered by the news of the grounding of their airline and its reinstatement). The strongest improvements came from SouthAfrica.TO, Kulula airline and Interlink, whilst 1time and Mango Airline also made some good ground. The underperformer amongst the South African websites was the ailing Flight Centre (South Africa).
A first in this survey, are the rankings of the different South African coach-liners. Greyhound coaches are in the clear lead, with Citiliner coaches bringing up the rear.
