SouthAfrica.TO more popular than Flight Centre

24 November 2007

We love it when South Africa whips Australia at sport, and it's just as much fun when South Africa out-competes Australia in business. For a long time an Australian company called "Flight Centre" has dominated the South African travel industry...but not anymore - today, for the first time, the 100% South African-owned website, SouthAfrica.TO has moved ahead of Flight Centre in South African website rankings (as measured by Alexa).

With Alexa rankings the lower your ranking the better (Google has a number 1 Alexa ranking). While Flight Centre has experienced a dramatic drop in its website's popularity, SouthAfrica.TO has steadily improved its ranking (it is now the 1069th most popular site in South Africa).

SAA still leads the airline pack and the ranking order is the same, but Kulula.com has made some big ground and Interlink airline now has a ranking. With so many South Africans catching Emirates flights, we've included Emirates airline. Compared to the airliners, SouthAfrica.TO is better ranked than Nationwide or 1time airline, but not as well ranked as Emirates airline.
