About Perth

As well as being state capital, Perth is the most populous part of Western Australia, as a result of it being on the Swan River. It was already proclaimed a city by Queen Victoria in 1856, but the discovery of gold to the east of Perth in the 1890s massively boosted its economy and demographics. When visiting Perth take advantage of its white sandy beaches, the most popular being Scarborough and Cottesloe.
