JNB - Buenos Aires Flight Review

14 September 2013. Average rating of 2 SAA flights: 3.5/5
The flight from Buenos Aires to Johannesburg was with South African Airways. This is so far the only direct flight you fly to the whole African continent departing from Buenos Aires. That was the main reason why I choose SAA in the first place - because it's the fastest way (I usually fly in AA or BA). The plane was good. Clean. Food was O.K. and service aboard was great. Plane was full. Entertainment was quite complete. A decent amount of movies from all over the world, classics included, and Bollywood too for all the many Indians that visit the country. The music department was great. This must have been the first time I could listen to punk rock or music from Africa and the world. Flight was smooth, with all our belongings arriving right on time and the migrations in O.Tambo were fast and easy. The airport is a good one - I spent three nights in an hotel there, so I got to know the place. You can eat a great variety of food and prices are good. Healthy or natural stuff, oysters, sushi, a fat hamburger, pasta - you get everything, but only until 22h00 or so. Then nothing happens. Shops for last minute presents are good and again prices are fair and sometimes cheaper than outside. Service people are polite, bathrooms clean, taxis are safe but expensive. You still have the train if you want to go on the cheap. The airport is very well done and it is easy to get arround, park your car or get a 5star hotel at walking distance. (OR Tambo International Airport is rated 4/5). There are a complete variety of car rentals. All the internationals plus half a dozen of locals. Prices O.K. (Car Rentals at OR Tambo are rated 3/5).

Then I flew from O.Tambo to Nairobi with Kenya Airways. The flight was going to Khartoum and it was full of people flying probably for the first time, so the hostesses had a lot of work trying to make the people sit in the right direction, etc Plane was old. Service was good and I arrived just in time. (Kenya Airways is rated 2/5)

In Kenya I took some small planes. Everything cool.

Then I flew again with SAA from Nairobi back to JĀ“oburg. Red eye flight. Good food and made it just in time just as our belongings.

Last flight SAA from O. Tambo back to Buenos Aires. Empty plane. Modern, confortable. Great service aboard, good food, great wine! Good duty free products aboard (Flight rated 4/5)
