How to find a cheap flight in to, or from South Africa

a relentless quest to expose the cheapest flights in, to and from South Africa

one-way flights

SunAir

SunAir Holdings was registered in 2005 in South Africa as the Holding Company of a (yet to be launched) airline, which plans to operate out of and be based in Cape Town.

SunAir's planned routes

SunAir plans to operate flights between Cape Town and London.

SunAir's planned launch date

Originally, SunAir planned to commence flights between Cape Town and London by November 2006; take-off date was then revised to July-2007; but it now seems that they'll only have aircraft available from October 2007.

SunAir's financing

According to a newsletter sent out by SunAir, Andre Shaban (CEO) said the company had "concluded an agreement with an organisation who has bought equity in SunAir Holdings Limited in excess of R1.5bn." (controversially, the investing organisation was not identified).

SunAir's website

SunAir's website is not www.sunair.co.za or www.flysunair.co.za; it is www.sunairholdings.com

Why call it SunAir

"Sun Air" is the name of an old South African domestic airline which was liquidated (stopped operating in 2004). SunAir Holdings limited acquired the previous airline's trademarks and logos. They cite the reasons for the previous airline's failure as being:

- wrong business model

- competition from low-cost airlines

- the wrong destinations

WOW! I have to admit that this was a real good laugh. admit to the fact that i also wanted to start an airline. I to was involve with boeing, even went to Seattle Washington USA. But that was for a tour of the boeing field. PS i also went to their offices (HQ) in Chicago. Funny that. Plus under our business plan we looked at raising only 300 mil Rand. As there was no way that you can under current 5th,6th and 7th grandfather rights that you can set up a new carrier to Europe. On the fact that they want to start in Mozambique, ha ha, they are under the blanket ban. I have to agree that Johny is right Run.

What is very amusing is that the SUNAIR outfit can think that they will get enough funds to start this idea, or rather this dream as they have no idea what it takes to start an airline. They claim to get the following going; Airline, Ground Handling, Technical facility, Training Academy, but they forgot to mention the CIRCUS. Firstly the plan was to fly Cape Town to London, now it is within Mozambique on a route that dismally failled with 4 previous operators, and the reason being that this very poor country does not have the ability to establish a successful domestic route due to the man in the street just to poor. Once they (Sun Air) have the AOC for Mozambique in place, they cannot fly with that into Europe as they will still have to apply for clearance into Europe, that on it's own can take anything from 18 months to Two years. Good advise insist on your investment refunded if you had invested anything.
