The way to make sure that you've got the cheapest flight on a certain date is to check every airline's airfares. This site lists all the airlines to enable you to do that (if you're in a hurry try 1Time, Kulula & Mango first). If you've got more time and you're flexible about dates, it's worthwhile to get on the airlines' mailing lists, as they sometimes email out offers for cheap flights. Flights leaving on Fridays and Sundays are usually more expensive.
