SAA staff resigning

On the 4th June 2007, as part of South African Airways' restructuring plans, Khaya Ngakula (CEO of SAA) announced that in order to save money, he planned to retrench some 30% of of managers. Subsequent to this, it's been reported that 4 out of the 11 members of SAA's executive committee are considering resigning. This is how it goes - with the retrenchment axe looming overhead, the best staff are often the first to go. The 4 thinking of leaving early are:

  • Gareth Griffiths (SAA's chief financial officer)

  • Vishnu Naicker (SAA's chief risk officer)

  • Nomfanelo Magwentshu (general manager tasked with restructuring)

  • Louisa Zondo (legal counsel)
