SAA is not in takeover talks

22 Jun 2008

A rumour started doing the rounds that South African Airways (SAA) was in takeover talks with three of its competitors. According to the rumour, SAA was considering selling its international traffic to bmi, Emirates or Lufthansa. This would leave SAA concentrating on flights within South Africa and Africa, and save it the expense of upgrading to new more fuel efficient aircraft.

The rumour started on MiceBTN, an Australian website. SAA has since, denied that it is contemplating selling its international traffic. MiceBTN have since removed the article from their website, but of course by that time the rumour had already spread like wildfire to many other websites.
