Kulula's momentary lapse of security

2 June 2008. We live in a non-compliant country - this is easily witnessed by the fact that a large proportion of the population break traffic laws every day on the way to work - so it was not surprising to me that Kulula too are non-compliant. Kulula seem to enforce safety precautions as frivolously as they read out their jokes at the start of each flight. I was on the 1830 Kulula flight from Johannesburg to Cape Town, sitting in the second row behind a brunette in the front row. She started chatting to the air steward, asking whether she could go upfront into the cockpit - the air steward explained to her how since 911 they are really strict on these matters. Halfway through the flight it seems these safety precautions became less of an issue, as she was hussled into the cockpit - where she stayed until after touchdown at Cape Town International Airport.
