The Amazing Stuffup - Air Tanzania

31 March 2007.

South Africans will remember Rob and Amber, in the Amazing Race, taking Johannesburg by storm. Well, in the USA, the Amazing Race is on its 11th instalment in the USA (called "The Amazing Race: All Stars"). And guess what, they've visited South Africa again. Needing to get from Maputo (Mozambique) to Dar es Salaam (Tanzania), all the teams eventually decided to catch a flight to Johannesburg's OR Tambo International Airport, instead of waiting for a direct flight from Maputo.

Air Tanzania's stuffup

Once in Johannesburg, an Air Tanzania ticketing agent announces that four teams have seats on the flight from Johannesburg to Dar es Salaam, leaving at about 1330 - Oswald and Danny, Uchenna and Joyce, Dustin and Kandice, and Eric and Danielle. But the dating couple Eric and Danielle relief is short-lived, as they are getting comfortable a worker comes aboard the plane to let them know that there was a mistake and that they were accidentally issued someone else's tickets. Danielle was on the verge of tears, but the more level headed Eric asked to no avail if anyone would give up their seat for $50. Stuck in Johannesburg, Eric tries to calm a hysterical Danielle down.

SAA flights - first in line doesn't get served first

Earlier, Joe Baldassare and Bill Bartek were trying to get on the 1145 SAA flight from Maputo to Johannesburg, and decided to stay in line instead of going up to the SAA offices (as 4 other teams did). Ian explained: "Well first of all, we didn't know they were going up there.  Second of all, we believed that the rule of 'First in line gets served first' works better.  Unfortunately for us, it didn't work out."
