Icy weather delays flights |
28 June 2007 |
Those who have been predicting massive climate change and climate warming naysayers alike (e.g. see global warming hoax) have been having a field day. The last time before the 26th June 2007's 4 inches of snow, that there was a full day's snowfall in Johannesburg was on the 10th September 1981 (there was a bit of sleet in 1996, but no thick snow).
Flights departing from Johannesburg Airport (OR Tambo International Airport were delayed up to 3 hours, as workers cleared ice and snow from the runways and aircraft aircraft were de-iced - a rare operation in South Africa. Flights arriving at Johannesburg airport were also delayed as they waited for aircraft parking bays to free up.
The knock-on effect of the delayed flights from Johannesburg, was that flights from Cape Town to Johannesburg were also delayed.
By midday on the 27th of June the backlogs had been cleared up.
