Qatar to South Africa flights increased

20 January 2007 - Qatar airlines has decided to increase the number of flights from Qatar to South Africa. The airline will increase its weekly flights from Qatar to Cape Town and Qatar to Johannesburg from 4 to 10. Civil aviation authorities of South Africa and Qatar have agreed to hold talks within 6 months, after which Qatar airline will increase flights again, to 14 per week.

Sounds all good news for consumers - more flights from the middle-east; and this after Gulf Airways have announced new years specials. Qatar airline's extra flights should put added downward pressure onto flight prices to the middle-east. And remember, airlines sometimes offer specials to South Africans for onward flights to New York/London/etc... Mr Cheap Flights, himself, flew Air Emirates from Johannesburg to New York via Dubai (yes, this was the cheapest ticket even though the flight was further).

A quick check on flight prices shows that a return ticket from Doha to Cape Town, leaving on the 25th February and going back on the 19th March would cost R9,095.
