27 January 2007. With a slight sense of relief, I read that British Airways are cancelling their flights from London to Johannesburg on January the 30th and the 31st. Relief because I was so deeply ashamed of the inconvenience which South African Airways' strike caused...and I now realise that South African Airways doesn't have a monopoly on upsetting passengers by striking. British Airways also cancelled their flights from Johannesburg to London on the 2nd and 3rd February (although it must be said that by cancelling the flights, South African Airways saved some passengers the stress of sitting in front of the emergency exit!)
Airline passengers who were scheduled to fly on the above dates could rebook the flight at a later date, claim a full refund or book with another airline. British Airways' stewardesses & stewards are striking over sick leave, pay and staffing conditions. Unions have warned that there will be 2 more 3-day work stoppages in February if the dispute remains unresolved.
