3 July 2007. British Airways would do well to allow their passengers to use the automatic check-in machines at Cape Town International Airport. Currently, the automatic check-in machines only for SAA passengers to use them. The machines are really handy for saving time when you only have hand luggage.
Cape Town's top-notch securityCape Town's airport security was tested and passed...again...it's not possible to sneak a laptop in your bag through security anymore. Well done Cape Town International! And with all the building going on Glasgow Airport terrorist copycats should take note that it's not possible to drive a jeep anywhere near the terminal buildings (and if they leave any Mercedes in Johannesburg, the vehicles will be stolen before they can be blown up!).
Here's how much it cost to purchase some snacks at Cape Town Airport (at the Cape Farm & Wine Emporium):
Niknaks 40g |
R4.00 |
Vegicrisps |
R13.00 |
Melissa's shortbread |
R47.00 |
I must commend Cape Town Airport on their excellent wireless internet connections at the airport - really topnotch and good value. The airport is making great strides forward with its improved security, great wireless connections, automated check-ins and additional capacity it is building.
"ONE Time..we depart SOME time".
The flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg was uneventful. I sat next to a delightful fella who was flying from Cape Town to Manchester (via Johannesburg's OR Tambo International and Dubai with Emirates). He'd paid a total of R8000 for his return tickets...I went the diplomatic route, and didn't tell him about how he could have paid less!).
I've raved about British Airways' great vegeterian meals and mentioned how SAA has perfected the art of tasteless cooking (that's when their vegeterian meals actually make it on the plane - sometimes it's too much trouble for SAA to get the meals on board ). In today's assesment BA have further raised the bar in terms of vegeterian meals - they included a legume in the meal (peas), being vegeterian is like a constant battle for protein - the main source of which are legumes like peas and beans. Well done British Airways!
Avis car rental at Johannesburg Airport did their usual speedy job of getting me a car - walk in, show your ID, walk out. I got a Polo 1.4 - it does the job.
