The Wilderness is a resort-town on the "garden route", in South Africa's Western Cape Province. It is situated east of George and west of Sedgefield, between the Outeniqua mountains & the Indian Ocean. The town is known for its long sandy beach and lagoon. Up to his death in 2006, it was the home of former President PW Botha. For those that like walks, the Wilderness National Park has trails passing by bird hides, which penetrate into the cool forests overlooking views of the lakes.
For those who like golf, Wilderness is close to Fancourt, Pinnacle Point, Oubaai, George Golf Club, Simola, Sparrebosch and Pezula golf courses.
Whale watching is best from August to October, when Southern Right Whales usually come to visit. Dolphins can sometimes be spotted playing in the surf.
The Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe is a steam-train running between George & Knysna, through Wilderness.

Browse the Milkwood Village Market every Friday from 1600, the Wilderness Village Market every 2nd Sunday and the Wilderness Craft Market on the last Sunday of every month (on the banks of the Touw River).
Kleinkrant, Touw River Mouth and The Boardwalk on 6th Avenue, Leentjiesklip and The Fisherman's walk on 8th Avenue. Be careful of the strong currents.
