McGregor is a small town situated near Robertson in the Western Cape province of South Africa.
Before 1906 the Cape Colony had 2 villages named "Lady Grey", both situated in mountainous territory, both of which had come into existence in the mid-19th century and both named after the wife of the British governor, Sir George Grey. The existence of these 2 villages with the same name led to no end of confusion at the post office. In 1904, the Dutch Reformed church's congregation in the Lady Grey near Robertson (the other Lady Grey was in the Eastern Cape) decided to name their parish McGregor in honour of the Reverend Andrew McGregor, their recently retired minister. In 1906 the postmaster-general of the Cape Colony renamed the village post office McGregor and the village was officially renamed McGregor in April 1906.
