Grahamstown is situated in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa, inland of East London and Port Elizabeth.
Grahamstown's weather has been described as 4 seasons in a day. June/July are normally cold months.
Grahamstown is known for its 10 days arts and jazz festival every June/July. The town has a population of about 40 000 and this is increased by some 100 000 during the festival. The festival has been going since 1974, when the inaugural festival was timed to coincide with the opening of the 1820 settlers monument, and there were 64 events on the main programme. Funding of the festival has been a challenge since Standard Bank pulled out as the festival's main sponsor in 2001.
The Village Green is the informal shopping centre, where stall-holders set up at the fair.
