From 5 Sep 2012 SAA are moving to a baggage policy that restricts the number of pieces of baggage a passenger may check in, rather than the total weight of a passenger's checked in luggage. Basically, an excess baggage charge will be applied if your economy class bag weighs over 23kg (different rules for flights to South America) or exceeding the maximum dimensions. In most instances an economy class passenger is only allowed to check-in the one bag (exceptions are in the USA/Canada, Blantyre/Lilongwe to London, between Africa & Asia, between Africa & Africa, between Africa & Lagos, between South America & the rest of the world).

Fortuitously, there were 2 nurses on board an Emirates flight from Dubai to Manila, who assisted a passenger who went into labour & gave birth in the plane's toilet. They've decided to call the baby EK (the code for Emirates Airline). The plane had to make an emergency landing in Vietnam.
