The Bottom Line: Yesterday I was asked whether purchasing Reinet shares was a good idea, since their Price-Earnings ratio was only 3.1. Well, this is a classic case of why one should not rely on PE ratios alone when making investment decisions - most of Reinet's earnings (on which the PE ratio is based) was comprised of fair value adjustments to its BAT shares, and those fair value adjustments are not sustainable.
