Today, Monarch Airlines started training celebrities to work for Celebair, in anticipation of a new TV show called "Celebair", in which the celebreties work as cabin crew, ticket desk and check-in staff whilst vying to be Celebair's favourite employee. Celebair will be a rebranded Monarch plane operating flights from London to Alicante, Cyprus, Ibiza, Malaga, Menorca and Tenerife.

17 Apr 2008	Openskies, an airline owned by British Airways and about to start operating flights between New York and Paris (taking advantage of the US-EU Open Skies agreement), has appointed Taxi New York for advertising services and Radixx International for the use of its flights reservation systems.
14 Apr 2008	It's rumoured that Silverjet airline, a business-class only airline in the UK operating flights between London Luton and New York, and London Luton and Dubai, has entered into merger talks with Lufthansa.
13 Apr 2008	Emirates is offering the cheapest flight from Cape Town to London (R6 551), with Qatar Airways in second place. Lufthansa is most expensive.
5 Apr 2008	Virgin Atlantic Airways flight VS 604 from Cape Town to London Heathrow is cancelled. A Facebook group has been set up for passengers who missed the flight.

30 Mar 2008	Ryanair flies its first flight from Shannon to Berlin.
21 Mar 2008	A Ryanair flight from Charleroi (Belgium) to Limoges (Frances) overruns the runway by 10m.
19 Mar 2008	BA increases its shareholding in Iberia Airways (a Spanish Airliner) by 3 percent to 13.15% (under Spanish law if BA increases its shareholding by more than 5% in a 12 month period an automatic bid is triggered).
15 Mar 2008	British Airways pilots protest outside the British Airways headquarters near Heathrow, London. They are unhappy at pilots outside of British Airways being hired at OpenSkies (their wholly owned subsidiary which will initially be flying between Paris and New York, taking advantage of the US-EU Open Skies agreement).
28 Mar 2008	KLM Royal Dutch Airlines are offering a 4 day sale for flights booked from the 28th March to the 31st March. In particular for flights between the UK and South Africa - e.g. London-Johannesburg. We examined the special and found cheap flights - not quite as cheap as they advertised, but cheap (we're sure the cheapest are hidden away somewhere). The airfare also compares well against an Emirates check. So, if you've got family in the UK who want to visit South Africa now is a good time to fly them with KLM.

4 Apr 2008	Emirates flight from Cape Town to Dubai turns back 20 minutes after takeoff, as a result of a bird hitting an engine. Emirates flew its initial Dubai-Cape Town flight on the 30th March 2008. Passengers are accommodated at the Southern Sun hotel near Cape Town's Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.
4 Apr 2008	India's Jet Airways announces plans to add new destinations like Johannesburg (in the first quarter of 2009), Los Angeles (USA), Milan (Italy), Munich (German), Paris (France), Tel Aviv (Israel) and Vancouver (Canada). In March Jet Airways postponed its previous plans to fly Mumbai-Johannesburg flights, deciding to first open up more lucrative routes to China and the USA.
30 Mar 2008	Emirates flies its first flight directly from Dubai to Cape Town, with Cape Town becoming Emirates 100th global destination. The flights are codeshare with SAA, so one can earn Voyager miles. Emirates will have 3 flights a day from Dubai to Johannesburg and daily flights between Dubai and Cape Town. The new route will not only give travellers another option, but also serve as a boost to Emirates Skycargo, its freight arm - this should increase the trade of foodstuffs out of the Western Cape and electronic components in. On the inaugural flight will be ex beauty queen Marilee Vermaak from the Strand in Cape Town (see Marilee on the left in this picture below from 1999). The first Emirates flight to Cape Town was greeted by the beating of African drums played by a Marimba band, as well as the usual watercanon salute.
