World Cup travel prices |

With the World Cup rhetoric of sky-high flight prices and accommodation shortages intensifying, we decided to check for ourselves what's going on. Accommodation is a serious problem in Nelspruit, Polokwane and the Pilanesburg and flight prices are expensive (but not as expensive as some of the scaremongering which has been going on), whilst the good news is it's still possible to get car rentals at reasonable rates.
We used our hotel price quotation engine to search for the cheapest accommodation for the evening of the 26th until the 27th June 2010 (bang smack in the middle of the Fifa World Cup).

The most serious problems are in Nelspruit, Polokwane and the Pilanesburg/Rustenburg; where we couldn't find a spot to stay.

Similarly we checked one-way flight prices on the 26th June 2010. Prices are on the high side, but not extraordinarily so given the massive increase in demand expected.

We also looked at the price of renting a car from 13h00 on the 26th June until 13h00 on the 27th June 2010.
