New year hotel prices in Cape Town

Most hotel prices are up on 2008. The Southern Sun Hotel at the V&A Waterfront quoted R1662 for a night (the highest price since our 1 Mar 2008 survey), whilst the R701 quoted by StayEasy Century City is the highest we've ever seen from them.

The City Lodge Group have increased their prices since our last survey in 2008:

Courtyard, City Lodge & Town Lodge Hotels by 8%
Road Lodge Hotels by 7%

Travel blog of the week : Cale in southern Africa

Cale ventured from Jeffrey's Bay to Cintsa to Coffee Bay to Durban to Swaziland to Johannesburg to Cape Town (getting around on the Baz Bus) to Windhoek to Swakopmund. He's something of a Camel man - trying to surf at J-Bay, hiking and cliff jumping at Coffee Bay, and sandboarding at Swakopmund.
