The Eskom Foundation and Thebe Exhibitions and Projects have joined forces in the most comprehensive, four day expo in the country, dedicated to developing entrepreneurship in South Africa, aligned with government?s drive to develop the economy and create jobs by focusing on small, medium and macro enterprises (SMMEs).
In a larger and more convenient venue, the Business Opportunities and Franchise Expo will run from Thursday, 16 to Sunday, 19 September at the Coca Cola dome in Northriding, Johannesburg, with a more extensive line-up of leading business, investment, and franchising opportunities as well as business support services aimed at an influential audience of successful and aspirant entrepreneurs.
Says Haylene Liberty, CEO of the Eskom Foundation: ?According to the Department of Trade and Industry, entrepreneurs represent a critical sector of South Africa?s economy, with up to 70 percent of all new jobs created in 2008 attributed to SMMEs.
?Eskom has long been involved in stimulating this sector, particularly black-owned and black-women-owned companies, through the creation of opportunities for entrepreneurs to become Eskom suppliers across a number of categories.
?Through our far reaching corporate social investment programmes within the Eskom Foundation, we are also intimately involved in assisting to establish sustainable small business ventures. Two of the major challenges facing entrepreneurs are the ability to access funding through traditional bank loans and then market products and services effectively.
?The expo meets this second need and connects SMME owners with investors actively looking for business partnerships, especially in the black-owned sector,? says Ms Liberty.
?With a vital role to play in nurturing the interests of existing and aspirant business owners, the new expo will allow us to reach even more entrepreneurs, inspiring them to start their own businesses; helping them to develop their skills; find new customers and investors; and assisting in job creation, which ultimately stimulates economic growth,? says Carol Weaving, Managing Director of Thebe Exhibitions and Projects.
?We expect that many business opportunities will arise ? to the benefit of South Africa at large, which is relying on the informal and SMME sector to be a catalyst for more job opportunities in the future,? says Ms Weaving.
The new-look Business Opportunities and Franchise Expo covers business opportunities and investments; franchisors and franchising opportunities; business development organisations; major funding and financial institutions; direct selling; ?work from home? opportunities; business support services; office equipment and systems; and small business financial advisors.
