Rooms and facilities

Cape Town's Holiday Inn Express has 175 hotel rooms each containing coffee and tea utensils, DSTV, a shower, safe. Guests may make use of abusiness centre with internet access. The Holiday Inn Express does not have a restaurant, but offers breakfast and a bar. The rooms have showers instead of baths, and a convertible sofa for children up to the age of 14.

Amabubesi Investments

Amabubesi Investments was co-founded by Sango Ntsabula (a chartered accountant and the chairman), Thabiso Tlelai (a non-executive director) and Peter Moyo (of Alexander Forbes fame and previously deputy CEO of Old Mutual South Africa). The word "Amabubesi" is from the Nguni language and associated with a pride of lions.

Intercontinental Hotels Group opens the first Holiday Inn Express in South Africa, in Cape Town's St George's Mall. This is a 175-roomed hotel in St George's Mall, which was completed at a cost of some R130m. Constructed together with ISO Leisure, Cape Town's Holiday Inn Express is the first of 25 that the Intercontinental Hotels Group plans to build in South Africa together with ISO Leisure. Cape Town's Holiday Inn Express is in the busy city centre, has views of Table Mountain and is close to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront.

2007

ISO Leisure signs an exclusivity agreement with the InterContinental Hotels Group to develop Holiday Inn Express hotels in South Africa.The vice-president of the InterContinental Hotels' Africa division, Ewan Cameron, indicates that InterContinental Hotels had chosen ISO Leisure because of its BEE holding (i.e. its 26% ownership by Amabubesi Investments).

2005

The relationship between Southern Sun and the Inter-Continental group (SA) dissolves.

2004

Old Mutual purchases a 20% stake in Amabubesi Investments, allowing Amabubesi to draw on and manage a R150m investment fund.

2002

Amabubesi Investments is co-founded by Peter Moyo, Sango Ntsabula and Thabiso Tlelai. Moyo and Tlelai provide most of the capital, with the idea that Ntsabula would provide the executive leadership (Moyo and Tlelai had full-time jobs at the time).
