The biggest drawcard of Belaire Suites is that it overlooks Durban's beachfront, and due to its old design has large rooms.
Room tip
Ask for a room as high up as possible, for better views. Avoid the first and second floors as you don't have a proper sea view.

Blown Away
2013-06-12 Rating
4/5: My boyfriend and I recently went on holiday to Durban. We had the pleasure of staying at Belaire Suites, which is a luxury furnished 4 star hotel located on Durban’s beachfront. We arrived at the hotel on a Thursday at 20:00. As we walked into the Reception area I was suddenly overwhelmed with a huge sigh of relief. We had missed our flight to Durban from Johannesburg and had to catch one which was due to depart at 17:15, but it was delayed and only departed at 18:10. By then I was very agitated and all I wanted was to get to the hotel and Sleep. While waiting to check in I couldn’t help but notice how extremely friendly the staff was and how quick the check in process was. There was a porter who helped us carry our bags to the 8th floor and when we went into our room I was blown away. It was a spacious studio apartment equipped with a marble bathroom, kitchenette and a sea facing view. We immediately settled in and got comfortable. About an hour later we went for dinner at Café Jiran, which is the restaurant at Belaire Suites, and my oh my did the food taste exquisite. The restaurant serves its food fine dining style and after the first meal I was determined to try every dish they had on the menu. We stayed at the restaurant for almost three hours as we got acquainted with Luke who was our waiter for the evening, he had wonderful energy and I remember not wanting him to stop talking at some point as I thought his stories were very interesting. The following morning we had breakfast at the hotel and went sightseeing, all I could talk about that day was how the hotel is located close to all the major attractions and how easy it is to get around Durban. After all the sightseeing we would sit in our room and look at the people walking along the promenade, that’s if we weren’t taking a stroll on the Promenade ourselves. We stayed at the hotel for a total of four nights and you’d think the attitude of the staff would change towards you but it doesn’t, they always had smiles on their faces and they were always happy to help and willing to go the extra mile just to ensure that we enjoyed each day at the hotel.Busi Khanyile
Not fair to judge
2010-01-31. My last accommodation review was of the Enchanted Guest House in Bantry Bay (thank you Lou-Ann for arranging it), and today we had the pleasure of reviewing the Belaire Suites on Durban's North Beach (we booked an SAA flight to Durban, and spending the night there before cruising on the MSC Sinfonia from Durbanto Maputo and the Portuguese Islands, courtesy of our friends at Starlight Cruises).
I don't think it's fair to judge Belaire Suites on our experiences, as they are busy refurbishing the place...however, they did feel ok to accept R707 from us. Firstly, Gideon is awesome - he took a HUGE interest in our well-being. The air-conditioning in the room was not working, and I would not have booked ANY spot in Durban without air-conditioning, it's simply too hot and humid. There is no direct path to the beach, as there is a forest blocking your way.
