It feels like too long ago, but in June 2009 we had the pleasure of reviewing the Victoria Boutique Villa in Gardens, Cape Town, and meeting its friendly manager, Lou-Ann. One good thing leads to another, and Lou-Ann put us in touch with the Enchanted Guest House in Bantry Bay. The Enchanted Guest House has a couple of things in common with the Victoria Boutique Villa:
They have both recently done a lot of renovations and the furnishings are brand spanking new. In the case of the Enchanted Guest House this was with the aim of upgrading to 4 stars (they succeeded).
They have both created sufficient seperation between the owners' space and the guests' space.
It was easy to find the Enchanted Guest House - first turn right off Victoria Road into Craigrownie Road and the Enchanted Bed & Breakfast is at the end on your right. It's situated a hop, skip and jump from the promenade in front of Saunders Rocks beach and the tidal pool. I love the area and when I saw how well it was positioned, I insisted on spending a night there to review it properly :)
I thought my room was spatious until I saw some of the other rooms - the rooms not only offer the high ceilings and space characteristic of a bygone era, but also the modern feel of a recently renovated building. All the rooms have balconies (even the ones at street level). All the rooms have comfortable king-size beds in them, and I slept like a log in one of them.
From the upstairs balconies there are views of lion's head and Saunders Rocks.

I hopped over to Saunders Rocks, and the water felt so nice and cool, I decided to go for a swim amongst the rocks. The beach is not quite Blue Flag status, but had a good vibe with families stretched out on the rocks, children playing in the tidal pool and every now and then somebody venturing out into the sea. Here's some photos I took from Saunders Rocks:
I was touched by the friendliness and hospitality given to us by Jehaan and Moosa. Both are experienced industry practioners, with Moosa having been with the Enchanted Guest House for some time, and Jehaan having previously run a guest house in Plettenberg Bay.
I enjoyed the breakfast - they have the full range of cereals and a couple of fruit juices. We were offered tea or coffee and asked how we would like our eggs done. It would be value-adding if they checked whether their guests eat meat before bringing the sausages along.
I opted for swimming in the sea, but for those who love fresh water there's a small pool on the premises.
I thoroughly recommend the Enchanted Guest House - it's spatious, modern, comfortable and is in the beautiful setting of Bantry Bay. Add in the friendliness of its hosts, Jehaan and Moosa, and I would go back anytime.
